Who knows the difference between sterling silver and 925 silver?

Sterling silver: pure silver with a silver content of not less than 990 per thousand. Because it is too soft, it is not easy to cast into the desired jewelry shape, and it is easy to wear and oxidize and turn black, and the processing cost is too high, so it is not very suitable for jewelry production. Silver jewelry usually has several signs, one is S99, the other is S990, S is the first letter of the English word silver (silver), representing silver. The content is divided into 999, 995 and 990.
925 silver actually refers to a silver product with a silver content of 92.5%. 925 represents the purity of silver. This is the minimum required fineness for silverware, just like the fineness of 999 gold. Because pure silver is too soft and easy to oxidize,  Silver has ideal hardness, brightness and luster, and oxidation resistance due to the addition of 7.5% alloy. And it can be inlaid with various gemstones. Since then, silver jewelry has quickly swept the world with its bright color, unique style, exquisite workmanship and mid-range fashion taste.

The fineness of silver can be divided into:
(1) Pure silver: also known as precious silver, the highest purity that can be extracted by current science is more than 99.999%. Sterling silver is generally used as a reserve in the national treasury. The fineness of sterling silver should generally not be lower than 996‰. The color of 99 silver is pale and very soft. The jewelry made of it is easy to deform and cannot be inlaid with gemstones.
(2) Pure silver: the silver content is not less than 990‰, and the imprint is pure silver or S990, silver 990, which is called pure silver. (S is the abbreviation of English Silver Silver)
(3) Color Silver: Also known as ordinary jewelry silver or secondary silver. Adding a small amount of other metals to sterling silver or pure silver, generally adding copper elements with similar physical and chemical properties to silver, can form relatively hard colored silver. Colored silver has toughness and maintains the ductility of sterling silver. At the same time, it can reduce the oxidation effect of air on silver. Therefore, the surface color of colored silver jewelry is more difficult to change than sterling silver and pure silver. The fineness regulations of Chinese silver are expressed in percentages, and foreign general regulations are expressed in thousandths, such as “80 silver” in China and “800S” in foreign countries, which is 92.5 silver: English symbol 925S, which is an alloy composition containing 92.5% and 7.5% silver.
There are the following common classifications of colored silver:
1. The English logo of 98 silver is 980S, which means jewelry silver with a silver content of 98% and a copper content of 2%. This color silver is slightly harder than pure silver and pure silver, and is more versatile. It is used to make value-preserving jewelry.
2. 92.5 silver is also known as 925 silver (patterned silver), and the English logo is 925S, which means jewelry silver with a silver content of 92.5% and a copper content of 7.5%. This color silver has a certain hardness and It has certain toughness and is more suitable for making jewelry such as rings, pins, hairpins, necklaces, etc., and it is easy to inlay gemstones
. Jewelry silver. This color silver has high hardness and good elasticity, and is suitable for making handbells, lapel clips, hat flowers, tableware, tea sets, smoking sets or buttons, springs or needles on jewelry.
